A visit to Ecuador cannot be complete without a visit to the "Otavalo Market". Choose between a private or shared tour option.
Our day starts with a short drive on the Panamerican Highway, onward to Cayambe. Followed by Otavalo and end at Cotacachi for additional activities.
In the morning, we'll head north-east on the Panamerican Highway on a scenic route. As we pass through Cayambe, we learn about its emblematic Snowcapped Volcano, the countryside dairy farms and the plentiful flower plantations that can be admired from our vehicle.
Soon after, we arrive at the Plaza del Poncho in Otavalo. Fun fact, the Otavalo Indians are known to b the most dedicated and prosperous craftsmen and merchants of Ecuador. The Otavalo "Market" is one of South America's most important centers of ethno-tourism, featuring a dazzling array of textiles and crafts.
At the market you can find and buy (or test your haggle abilities) several souvenirs and everyday items such as Ponchos, Wooden Goods and Indigenous Jewelry in gold, silver or other fine metals and stones. These are perfect gifts or keepsakes from this city.
After a fun share of the old market experience, we go to the Cotacachi Cayapas Reserve. Here we'll see one of the most amazing sceneries of Ecuador at the Cuicocha Lake. We then head back to Cotacachi, famous for having one of the finest leather markets made by local artisans. You will have about a full hour to stroll down the main shopping avenue for shopping and admiring.
As the sun comes down, we start heading back to Quito to relax.
