Day by Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival - Visit Charles Darwin Station. Santa Cruz
Upon arrival to Baltra Island, a private transfer will take you on a scenic drive to Puerto Ayora. Check in at Hotel and have enough time to unpack prior to enjoying lunch at the Hotel Aquamarine.
PM: In the afternoon we'll make a visit to Charles Darwin Station to learn about the conservation and preservation of the islands. Dinner at the Hotel Aquamarine. Overnight at Puerto Ayora.
Day 2: Tortuga Bay Beach - Highlands Santa Cruz
Enjoy Breakfast at the hotel.
AM: We will start our day with a walk on a paved trail surrounded by opuntia cactus for about an hour. During this walk, you're very likely to see some interesting bird life including: mockingbirds, finches, flycatchers and Smooth-billed Anis. The trail emerges at Playa Brava, with an enchantingly beautiful white sand beach and strong waves that are perfect for surfing. Here on this beach is where sea turtles nest. Heading to west side of the beach the waters are calm and pools form a low tide, great for snorkeling. Following a trail you can find marine iguanas and offshore you will see sea turtles. Once you get to Playa Mansa the turquoise waters are tranquil and perfect to practice snorkeling. Lunch at Hotel Aquamarine.
PM: The time is perfect for an afternoon walk to visit the Santa Cruz highlands, hike through the underground natural Lava Tunnel formations which provide a unique view of the volcano forces that formed the islands. Walk in free roaming Tortoise Reserve towards the lagoon home of the wild giant tortoises, surrounded by scalesia forests, and amazing bird life. Return to the hotel, dinner.
Day 3: Tour Academy Bay - Free Afternoon
We'll jump onboard a speedboat towards Loberia Islet to observe a big colony of sea lions and get a chance to practice snorkeling with these beautiful animals. Next, disembark at Playa Los Perros to walk through Opuntia trees leading to a rocky beach to observe marine iguanas, sea lions and the amazing cliffs. We then walk to the Channel of Sharks, where these species rest. Finally disembark west of Academy Bay towards Las Grietas (hike through rock trail), a volcanic rock formation with interesting fissures formed by lava that split into two walls, highly recommend for swimming or snorkeling. Return to hotel, lunch at Hotel Aquamarine.
Day 4: Twin Craters - Baltra Airport
Start your day with an early breakfast. As we start heading to the airport, we will first take a short hike to visit the two volcanic craters known as Los Gemelos, located opposite each other on both sides of the road leading to Baltra. These formations were created by the collapse of surface materials into underground fissures and chambers. They are not real craters, only figurative. Continue the road to Baltra Island and transfer out to airport.
